about KJC
Isn't this a lovely little website? Thank you so much for visiting. Kiosk Junction Collective is a bite of word salad, I'll admit, but each ingredient has its purpose!
What does "Kiosk Junction Collective?" mean?
- ki·osk /ˈkēˌäsk/ noun: a small open-fronted hut or cubicle from which newspapers, refreshments, tickets, etc., are sold.
- junc·tion /ˈjəNG(k)SHən/ noun: a point where two or more things are joined.
- col·lec·tive /kəˈlektiv/ noun: a cooperative enterprise.
These definitions are straight from the dictionary, and they pretty much say it all! KJC is a digital storefront for designs created by multiple artists. That multiple, at the time this post is being written, is a whole entire two people - myself (mothy) and my dear friend Karen J Casey.
Oh. So why is it named that?
Karen has been creating art for a lot longer than I have, and for nearly as long she has made part of her living selling pieces and making custom commissions for friends and acquaintances. I'm neither as experienced in creating nor as interpersonally well-connected, but I do happen to be a digital native, and could independently use a computer by the time I started kindergarten.
Seeing my friend balk at sharing her incredible work with the world wide web due to the trepidation of figuring out how to do it was the catalyst that gave me the idea of making it happen. The more we talked about it, the more exciting the prospect became, until that prospect bursted into reality.
Like Karen, I am an artist. I have not been a very active artist for the past few years, and little of what I have made has had more eyes on it than my own. This website being a collective effort is helping me change that. I might be the tech-savvy between the two of us, but if it wasn't for Karen's encouragement, there would never have been a junction at all. I came up with a shop name acronym that matched her initials as a nod to this inspiration and how important it is to me.
Not to mention, this is only the beginning. Maybe the collective will grow! There's always room in the world for more art, right?
We appreciate your sharing this moment with us, and from the bottom of my heart, I hope you find something here that warms your soul. Happy browsing!
Love,
mothy
Okay, that's all very nice, but it didn't answer any of my questions.
